In a previous post I showed you some of the views down the road of this wonderful road trip along the Oregon Trail. Of course, with over 2000 miles spent in the car, travelling through five states, there was more than the views straight ahead… out the window there was sight after sight. Variety in abundance, terrain forever changing, never dull.
Of course it was not confined to landscapes, mountains and prairies. After 100s of miles without seeing a place you could suddenly see the food stop signs way ahead. Some quirky some knowing when my hunger really needed satisfying. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before I bumped into a Basset Hound either. Thoughts flew back home to Monty and Jasmine
From huge big skies over the plains…..
To sandstone marvels of nature….
Into new territories…
And the formidable sight of The Rockies laying across the horizon. Of course I just wanted to put on my boots and go upwards.
Food stops were forever interesting affairs. Yes, of course fast food was often the norm… but never drab. In the middle of nowhere was a super little place that certainly was an all American experience. Flags, more flags, pictures and patriotsim. Combined with a warm friendly greeting… and a foot long hot dog
Pizza… when the smallest size is bigger than the largest in UK ;D
Getting away from the usual cities, getting amongst the real country a bit via small towns and rural areas is a top way to discover America. Break down all stereotypes, make time to talk to real charming people and I have learnt so much history on this trip I just want to learn more. In just over a week I saw so so much! I am sure to be back yet again soon. New states, new places, new people. Loved it.
